MELBOURNE, Australia, Nov. 30, 2013–On the night before her 59th birthday, four-time Australian Olympian Mary Hanna and her London Games partner Sancette captured the World Cup Pacific League Final Saturday to earn a start at the annual globsl championship in Lyon, France next April.
The victory by Mary and the 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding (Sandro Hit x Contender) in the Grand Prix Freestyle for a score of 71.825 per cent qualiied her for her fourth World Cup Final and the first since an appearance on her 1996 Olympic mount, Mosaic.
It was only the second win for Mary and Sancette in 37 outings, mostly in Europe, over the past 3 1/2 years. The only other previous victory was at the Australian championships last month.
The husband and wife combinations of Rozzie Ryan and GV Bullwinkle amd Heath Ryan and Regardez Moi placed second and third, respectively, on 71.450 per cent and 71.375 per cent.
Maree Tomkinson and Diamantina, who had won the Grand Prix a day earlier on the hghest score at that level in Australia this year was well out of it with several mistakes to finish fourth on 69.600 per cent.
The triumph for Mary and Sancette came 3 1/2 years after buying the Hanoverian gelding (Sandro Hit x Contender) which was owned by Gwen Blake of the United States and had been finished to Grand Prix by Steffen Peters.
