SÃO PAULO, Brazil, Nov. 24, 2013–Luiza Tavares de Almeida and Pastor won the Amil Dressage Cup CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle at Sociedade Hípica Paulista on Sunday, two days after capturing the Grand Prix and the third win for the London Olympic combination in the series of events to select a Brazilian team for the World Equestrian Games next summer.
Luiza and the 17-year-old Lusitano gelding scored 68,650 per cent in the Freestyle and 66.298 per cent in the Grand Prix to bring to 15 the number of victories in 24 starts at Grand Prix level beginning two years ago. Pedro Tavares de Almeida, the younger brother rode Samba to second place with 64.450 per cent in the Freestyle. Samba was the horse Luiza rode when she was 17 years old in the 2008 Olympics.
Edneu José Senhorini and Xaparro do Vouga took the Grand Prix Special Saturday on 67.604 per cent after placing second on 64.362 per cent in the Grand Prix.
Rogério da Silva Clementino on Signo dos Pinhais placed second on 65.542 per cent in the Special and third on 64.298 per cent in the Grand Prix–a debut for the pair when Rogério took over the ride after João Victor Marcari Oliva was injured on the eve of the competition.
In addition to being one of the eight WEG selection events, the competition was an observation show for the Central American Games to be held in Chile in 2014 and for a team to represent Brazil at the Global Dressage Festival Nations Cup in Wellington, Florida in mid-February.
