SYDNEY, Nov. 20, 2013–A task force has been created to develop dressage in Australia with the six member panel to be led by Mary Seefried, chair of the Australian Dressage Committee.
Other members are Elaine Greene, Liz Owens, Denise Rogan, Michael Bragge and Brett Parbery, one of Australia’s top international competitors.
The task force was formed following a workshop designed to develop an action plan through the Olympics in 2016 and beyond, with the aim of establishing a framework to allow the sport to flourish from grassroots through to the elite level.
“We have an excellent opportunity to build a strategic plan for dressage for now and the future and the members of the task force will play a critical role in shaping the sport’s future,” said EA Chairman Dr Warwick Vale.
The task force will focus on:
1. Events–Strategies to increase spectator numbers and ensure the calendar of events meets the needs of all the levels of the sport;
2. Business–Ways to make the sport more self-sufficient and less reliant on government funding, and
3. Participation–Tactics to help to raise participation.
The national board and the Australian Dressage Committee will look to immediately initiate fundraising strategies with the aim of assisting riders campaigning for the World Equestrian Games to be held in Normandy, France Aug. 23 to Sept. 7.
