LYON, France, Nov. 1–Valentina Truppa and Fixdesign Eremo del Castegna won the Equitá CDI4* Grand Prix Freestyle Friday night to mark the most successful year with five victories so far for Italy’s top rated combination .
Valentina and the 12-year-old Italian-bred UNIRE gelding (Rohdiamant x Weltmeyer) scored 79.600 per cent to top the Netherlands’ Patrick van der Meer and Uzzo who placed second on 76.875 per cent.
The Italian pair finished second to Patrick and his 2012 Olympic mount in the Grand Prix Thursday.
Marc Boblet and Noble Dream Concepts Sol placed third on 74.675 per cent in the first CDI Freestyle for the French combination that began their Grand Prix career together in March, 2012. The Grand Prix score of 70.681 per cent that placed them third Thursday was a personal best for the pair, eclipsing their previous Grand Prix high result of 70.015 per cent at the European Championships two months ago.
Valentina, a former Young Rider star who is now aged 27, wore her familiar uniform of the Carabinieri, a 200-year-old police corps that is a branch of Italy’s military, for the fifth win this year. Eremo del Castegna has been her international Grand Prix partner since March, 2010. The pair competed in the Europeans after posting four straight wins at shows in Austria.
The pair posted four wins each year in 2010 and 2011 but one victory in 2012 when the focus was on the Olympics and the World Cup Finals the same year and in 2013.
