Emma Weinert, who left Australia more than four years ago to train with Shannon and Steffen Peters in California, has married Sean O’Rourke.
“Surprise! We couldn’t wait any longer!” the 30-year-old Emma wrote on her Facebook page.
“Planning a wedding with families and friends on opposite sides of the globe was challenging and we had to keep pushing our wedding date back, so we decided to have a private ceremony in the most magical place ever, just for us. No planning, no organising, no hair stylist, makeup artist, florist or photographer… Just simple and just the way we like it.
“We of course want to celebrate with you all so we will be having not one, but three wedding celebration parties! Australia, California and Illinois… Stay tuned!”
Emma said the couple plans to continue living in San Diego for the time being “purely for the great training that is available with the Peters, though we will for sure move back to Australia when the time is right.”
Emma is from the Sydney suburb of Glenorie. She rode her Velvet WD in their first Grand Prix competition at a U.S. national show last winter. She hopes to compete the mare at a CDI Grand Prix in Southern California next winter.
Sean grew up in Illinois but has lived in California for the past 10 years.
