BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 7–Tokyo was awarded the 2020 Olympic Games beating out bids by Istanbul and Madrid.
The International Olympic Committee voted Saturday to award the Games to Tokyo, by 60 votes to Istanbul’s 36.
Madrid was eliminated in the first round.
The 2020 Olympics will be the second for the Japanese capital, the first being in 1964.
The 2016 Olympics will be hosted by Rio de Janeiro.
The IOC has recommended that the horse sports of dressage, eventing and jumping remain as core sports at the 2020 Games that would mark 108 years for equestrian events at the Olympics.
