Florida and California shows for the 2014 winter circuits have been confirmed, with seven CDIs in Palm Beach, including four World Cup events, a CDI4*, a CDI5* and a CDIO3* Nations Cup and three major competitions in California.

Six of the seven Florida CDIs are at the Global Dressage Festival’s multimillion dollar Stadium that is part of the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center complex while the iconic Palm Dressage Derby at the heart of the circuit will be held in neighboring Loxahatchee.

The Florida circuit will offer at least $275,000 in prize money and dovetails with the Winter Equestrian Festival of 12 weeks of jumper and hunter competitions that draws riders and horses from across the United States and about 30 other countries.

The dressage Nations Cup of mixed Prix St. Georges and Grand Prix teams as a trial of a new format for the Pan American Games will be held at about the same time as the Nations Cups of jumping children’s, juniors, young riders and seniors.

The CDI5* has been scheduled the same week as the jumping CSI5* as a grand finale of both the GDF and WEF the last week of March.

Next winter’s dressage calendar came about when Equestrian Sport Productions that organizes both WEF and GDF on their Palm Beach show grounds bought the dates of shows that were previously held at the taxpayer-owned Jim Brandon Center in West Palm Beach.

The World Dressage Masters Palm Beach that was in the original lineup of €100,000 shows five years ago has been dropped, as reported earlier by dressage-news.com. Palm Beach joins Cannes, France and Hickstead, England as part of the inaugural calendar to drop the Masters. Only Munich remains from the initial group and has since been joined by Falsterbo, Sweden and Mechelen, Belgium as the only indoor competition.

The success of competitions at San Juan Capistrano in California at the same show grounds that host major jumping shows has led to an extra show there next winter.

Glenda McElroy’s Cornerstone Event Management has scheduled the Mid-Winter CDI-W for Burbank Feb. 20-23, Capistrano Dressage Classic at San Juan Capistrano Mar. 21-24 and the Festival of the Horse CDI-W at San Juan Capistrano Mar. 27-30.

The two World Cup events means that combinations can fulfill minimum requirements to seek to qualify for the two sports in the Final that are allocated to North America.
