Mistral Hojris, ridden by Laura Tomlinson (neé Bechtolsheimer), on Thursday was withdrawn from Great Britain’s team for the European Championships next week after sustaining what the British Equestrian Federation said was a slight injury.
The pair that competed with Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro and Carl Hester and Uthopia for team gold at last summer’s Olympics will be replaced by Gareth Hghes and DV Stenkjers Nadonna in their first senior championship.
The team will now comprise the two Olympic combinations, Gareth and Nadonna and Michael Eilberg and Half Moon Delphi.
The Europeans were o be the last championshits for Mistral Hojris, a Danish Warmblood gelding that would have been the center of attention at the event in Herning, Denmark.
“We are hugely disappointed not to have Alf [Mistral Hojris] out at the Championships,” said World Class Dressage Program Manager Richard Waygood. “We feel he has been the most amazing servant to the British team and British Dressage and that he owes us nothing and we owe him everything; we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Equestrian Performance Director, Will Connell, said: “Mistral Hojris has been at the forefront of British dressage and for GB. All within Great Britain owe Laura, Mistral Hojris and the Bechtolsheimers a huge debt of gratitude and this decision has been made with the welfare of the horse in mind.”
