Ayden Uhlir has been awarded the Fiona Baan Memorial Trophy as the Young Rider at the North American Championships to receive the highest combined average percentage score from the Team, Individual and Freestyle dressage rides.

Ayden, 18, of Kirkland, Washington won both the Freestyle and Individual gold medals and team silver aboard Sjapoer, her 14-year-old KWPN gelding, at this year’s championships in Lexington, Kentucky.

The award, presented since 1994, is the legacy of Fiona Baan, who for almost 30 years, worked for the U.S. Equestrian Team. She was U.S. Dressage Team leader for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and the 1987 Pan American Games.

Other special trophies and awards presented during NAJYRC included:

Style Award – Dressage – Krista Spencer of Naperville, Illinois;

The Howard B. Simpson High Five Trophy, to the volunteer  best exemplifying Howard’s spirit of volunteering –  Christy Baxter, and

The Albers Award, to the dressage chef d’equipe best demonstrating the same level of dedication, enthusiasm and team spirit shown by Patsy Albers – Ed Lavallee
