BALVE, Germany, June 8–Helen Langehanenberg and Damon Hill NRW were dominant in capturing the Grand Prix Special Saturday for the second victory for the pair in the first two of three competitions at this year’s German Championships.
Helen and the 13-year-old Westfalen stallion (Donnerhall x Rubinstein I) scored 82.167 per cent to win the Special with the top four placings the same as in Friday’s Grand Prix which Helen and Damon Hill won with a score of 78.340 per cent.
Isabell and Don Johnson FRH, an 11-year-old Hanoverian gelding, scored 78.125 per cent for second place in the Special and 78.340 per cent in the Grand Prix while Anabel Balkenhol and Dablino FRH were at 76.292 per cent for third, the same placing as in the Grand Prix on 76.000 per cent.
Helen and Damon Hill, ranked No. 2 in the world, won two of the three legs of the 2012 championships. The combination was the highest placed for Germany at the Olympics in London last summer and won their first World Cup title in April.
Totilas ridden by Matthias Alexander Rath won one leg at thse championships in 2012 in what was the last competition for the pair which has been dogged by injury to the horse or rider throughout their 2 1/2-year career together.
These competition at the Balve Optimum for the 10th time are mandatory for riders seeking to be on the German team at the European Championships in Denmark late August.
