ALLENTOWN, New Jersey, May 24–Sharon McCusker rode Wrigley in the horse’s first CDI Friday to win the ESDCTA Memorial Weekend CDI3* Grand Prix Friday.
Sharon of Ashby, Massachusetts and the 10-year-old KWPN gelding (Son Deniro x Rohdiamant) scored 65.581 per cent for the win in unseasonably cold and rainy weather.
Felicitas von Neumann-Cosel of Woodbine, Maryland and Tonico do Top second on 62.849 per cent and Chistopher Hickey of Colora, Maryland on Douglas Hilltop third on 61.872 per cent.
Cesar Parra of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey and Van the Man were fourth on 61.638 and Barbara Strawson of Clarksburg, Maryland and Amicelli were fifth with 53.553 per cent.
Sharon has been competing Wrigley since 2009 when the pair started at 1st level and has progressed through the levels with scores at 70-plus per cent at both small and big tour in national competitions.
Wrigley, she said, “loves his work” and has “quality gaits and a great engine and attitude.”
Sharon took the blame for mistakes in the one-tempi changes and a too large second pirouette but otherwise his piaffe and passage is good and the canter strong.
Jutta lee of Woodstock, Vermont and Glorious Feeling won the Prix St. Georges with 67.658 per cent, Caroline Cheret of Stockton, New Jersey and Sandokan plaed second on 65.684 per cent and Mary-Haskins Gurganus and Richmond HL were third on 64.500 per cent.
