SÃO PAULO, Brazil, May 23–Brazil began qualification of combinations for a team it plans to send to the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France in 2014 at the first of three CDI3* events in São Paulo this year with Luíza Tavares de Almeida and her younger twin brothers, Pedro and Manuel, sharing the wins.
the 21-year-old Luiza on her 2012 Olympic mount Pastor won the Grand Prix with a score of 66.511 per cent with Pedro Tavares de Almeida riding Samba in their first CDI was second on 66.106 per cent and Rogério Clementino on Bravíssimo third on 65,809 per cent.
Manuel Tavares de Almeida, Luiza’s 19 years old brother, rode Viheste AR to win the Special with 66,958 per cent with Edneu Senhorine on Xaparro do Vouga second on 62,640 per cent and João Victor Marcari Oliva on Signo dos Pinhais in third place.
Pedro Tavares de Almeida rode Samba to victory in the Freestyle with a score of 70,100 per cent with Luiza and Pastor second on 70,025 per cent and Rogério and Bravissimo third on 68,575 per cent. Luiza was the youngest rider in the hstory of the Olympics when she took Samba to the 2008 Beijing Games. As she is focused on Pastor, the ride on Samba has been taken over by Pedro, her brother.
The International Riding & Dressage Meeting Coudelaria Ilha Verde was the first selection competition for the 2014 WEG.
An international dressage forum, sanctioned by the Brazilian Equestrian Federation (Confederação Brasileira de Hipismo), was held in conjunction with the competition with lectures by international judges and open to riders of all equestrian disciplines, trainers, owners and breeders.
Mariette Withages-Dieltjens of Belgium, former chairman of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Dressage Committee, gave a presentation on the WEG.
Lief Tornblad of Denmark spoke to the forum on “Judging Young Horses.” Lief was a judge at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and he will be president of the jury at the European Dressage Championships in Herning, Denmark in August.
