Isabell Werth Wins Wiesbaden CDI4* Freestyle on Der Stern After GP Victory on Don Johnson

WIESBADEN, Germany, May 19–Isabell Werth picked up her second victory at this historic tournament this weekend when she won the Grand Prix Freestyle on Der Stern OLD on Sunday, a day after riding Don Johnson FRH to victory in the Grand Prix, the first top placings for the German superstar this year.

The win on Der Stern with a score of 75.625 per cent in steady rain under lights came in only their second CDI Grand Prix competition–the first was at ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands two months ago–and a recovery from 19th place on 66.596 per cent in Saturday’s Grand Prix.

Der Stern is a 12-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Dormello x Asionela x Sion) that Isabell was competing at small tour last fall.

Portugal’s Gonçalo Carvalho on Rubi placed second with 74.525 per cent while Ingred Klimke of Germany on Dresden Mann was third on 73.875 per cent in the first CDI Grand Prix competition for the spectacular nine-year-old Westfalen stallion (Dresemann x Floh x Florestan I) after finishing sixth on 70.468 per cent in the Grand Prix.

Isabell and Don Johnson, a 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding (Don Frederico x Werona x Warkant) scored 75.213 per cent for the win in the Grand Prix over fellow German Fabienne Lütkemeier on D’Agostino whose personal best score of 74.553 per cent put them in second place. Denmark’s Lone Bang Larson and Fitou L were third on 72.553 per cent.

For Isabell and Don Johnson it was their first victory since Vienna last September but have placed within the top five in their eight starts since then, including the World Cup Final a month ago.

German Young Rider star Sanneke Rothenberger competed Favourit in their first CDI, scoring 71.957 per cent for fourth place. Sanneke took over the ride last October from Tinne Vilhelmsson-Silfvén who competed the Rhinelander gelding on the Swedish team at the 2009 European Championships and the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
