SYDNEY, May 3–Sheridyn Ashwood and Prestige VDL posted their biggest victories in more than two years of their Big Tour career in winning both the Grand Prix and the Special at the Sydney CDI3*.
Sheridyn and the 16-year-old KWPN stallion (Silvano N x Lavendel x Goodtimes) scored 68.851 per cent to win the Grand Prix Thursday and the Special on Friday with 70.340 per cent, the first time the pair have ever scored above 70 per cent at any of three Grand Prix levels in 21 starts.
“I was in shock,” she said of the 70 per cent-plus. “I rode the horse down to the stables and the girls came in running and cheering. Then they told me I’d scored over 70 per cent and I was so excited.
“The score is what matters most. The test I did just then was good, but there’s so much more that I can do. I come out of the test and I’m happy but I know I still have a few things to work on.”
Before this event, the only previous victory at CDI for Sheridyn and Prestige was in the Grand Prix Special at Orange CDI3* six weeks ago. On Saturday night, the pair will attempt the hat trick when they start in the Freestyle.
David Shoobridge and 00 Seven were second in the Grand Prix on 67.702 per cent and Nadia Coghlan and Carlyle third on 66.894 per cent.
In the Special, Rozzie Ryan and GV Bullwinkle who won the World Cup Pacific League but did not go to the Final in Gothenburg, Sweden last month, were second on 66.720 per cent and Caroline Wagner and Tango V were third on 66.080 per cent.
Sheridyn said she pre-plans everything about her ride.
“I know it sounds funny,” she said, “but I visualize every movement, every aid, what rhythm I want, pretty well everything. It can take me up to an hour. If I have it right in my head, then I’m confident.”
