SAUMUR, France, May 3–Charlotte Dujardin competed Uthopia in their first CDI, easily winning the Grand Prix at this CDI3* Friday, beating her Olympic gold medal team mate Carl Hester who rode the stallion at the London Games.

Charlotte, winner on Valegro of both team and individual gold medals at the London Olympics, was scored at 72.255 per cent aboard Uthopia, a 12-year-old KWPN horse (Metall x Odelia x Inspekteur).

Carl and Fine Time 13 placed second on 69.872 per cent with France’s Jessica Michel and Riwera in third on 69.064 per cent. Denmark’s Anders Dahl and the former British championship team horse Wie Atlantico was fourth on 68.212 per cent.

Uthopia, listed as owned by Carl and Sasha Stewart, an Irish real estate developer hose firm went broke in the economic collapse, was to have been shown by Charlotte in their first CDI at Addington, England a month ago but withdrew because of an outbreak of equine herpes virus..

However, Uthopia’s ownership has been complicated by the financial issues.

Carl is an owner of both Uthopia and Valegro, both of which were to be sold after the Olympics. Charlotte has been a longtime student of Carl’s.
