MANNHEIM, Germany, May 3–Akeem, the latest horse bidding for superstar status, was ridden by Andreas Helgstrand of Denmark to a dominating performance in the Grand Prix at the Maimarkt-Turnier CDI3* on Friday, making it three wins in three starts since the partnership began just over a month ago.

Andreas and the 11-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding (Akinos x Lobelia Foldager x Loran) were awarded 75.128 per cent, including three 10s, one for the final centerline piaffe and a pair of 10s and two nines for the first piaffe, passage, piaffe, the transition and passage.

Germany’s Wolfram Wittig on Bertoli W were second on 70.851 per cent and compatriot Jenny Lang on Loverboy 70.021 per cent.

Artemis, the 14-year-old Westfalen gelding ridden by Great Britain’s Richard Davison in last summer’s Olympics in London, scored 63.021 per cent in the first competition since then under new rider Philine von Bremen of Switzerland.

Akeem, however, was the center of attention after wins in the Grand Prix and the Freestyle at Horses & Dreams CDI4* in Hagen, Germany two weeks ago.

Akeem and Andreas, who is one of three owners and describes the horse as the best he has ever ridden, were the unanmous choice for first place of all five judges though the scores ranged from a high of 79.788 per cent from Isobel Wessels of Great Britain to a low of 72.128 per cent from Gotthilf Riexinger of Germany.

Andreas, known for the electrifying performances on the gray mare Matiné at the World Equestrian Games in 2006, now has  the second qualifying score he needs for the Danish championships that he hopes will lead to the pair being selected for the team for the European Championship to be held in his homeland in August.
