DOHA, Qatar, Mar. 29–The two-time Olympic partnership of Nathalie Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein and Digby captured the inaugural Al Shaqab CDI4* Grand Prix for the lion’s share of the €80,000 (US$102,000) purse at the spectacular venue that is hosting the first CHI of dressage and jumping in the Middle East of 170 riders and 200 horses from more than 25 nations.
Nathalie and the 16-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding (Donnerhall x Oxenholm Pamina x Sandro) scored 75.426 per cent in the highest score for the pair since being reserve champion at the 2011 World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany.
Sweden’s Patrik Kittel on the Australian-owned Toy Story were second on 71.830 per cent with Portugal’s Gonçalo Carvalho and Rubi third on 69.979 per cent.
The Freestyle Saturday night is the headline dressage event with a €130,000 (US$166,000) purse for the 14 combinations from nine different European nations.
Nathalie and Digby competed at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics, the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, 2009 and 2011 European Championships as well as three World Cup Finals.
