WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 27–Ashley Holzer is back riding Breaking Dawn that she took to last summer’s Olympic Games in London and is preparing to compete the horse at the Global Dressage Festival CDI5* in two weeks.
Ashley rode the 12-year-old KWPN gelding (Akribori x Eveline x L Ronald) in a national competition Wednesday, scoring 76.383 per cent from a single judge in the Grand Prix.
She began competing Breaking Dawn, whose barn name is Edward after one of the main characters in the Twilight movie series in which owner P.J. Rizvi’s husband was a producer, late in 2011 with the aim of qualifying for the Olympics 10 months later. The pair were successful.
As P.J. and Ashley had agreed, the horse was returned to the owner to ride after the Olympics.
“Incredibly happy!” was the way Ashley described her feelings after the ride. “He is such a wonderful animal and PJ Rizvi is a great friend.”
They will compete in the CDI5* but “the rest we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Ashley last November gave up the ride on her other top horse, Pop Art, that she competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The horse was ridden in Florida this winter by her lifelong friend, Jill Irving.
