LYON, France. Nov. 1–Adelinde Cornelissen is having such a good time riding a Jerich Parzival who now loves being in the show ring that the pair posted a personal best score in winning the Grand Prix Thursday at the Equitá World Cup event.
The Grand Prix score of 82.766 per cent, surpassed their previous best of 82.043 per cent in March, 2011, and came with no pressure as the current holder of the World Cup title has only to start in the Grand Prix and the Freestyle at two competitions to automatically go into the Final. She and Parzival last month won the first of eight events in the 2012/2013 Reem Acra FEI World Cup Western European League circuit, the most hotly contested of the four divisions for the only annual global championship in dressage.
The Dutch Olympic team and individual medalist and the big 15-year-old KWPN chestnut gelding (Jazz x Fidora x Ulft) will have been competing at CDI Grand Prix for more than six years when the combination go to the Final in Gothenberg, Sweden, next April with the aim of picking up their third straight Reem Acra FEI World Cup title.
Edward Gal and Glock’s Undercover continued with their big improvement by taking second with a score of 78.511 per cent, also a personal best and achieved in their first indoor show. Italy’s Valentina Truppa and Eremo del Castegno were third on 76.191 per cent.
“We are really showing for pleasure,” Adelinde said after she and Parzival were the last to start in the field of 15 riders that in addition to the two Dutch team mates was loaded with combinations who competed at last summer’s London Games.
“He’s having so much fun. Before he used to be a bit scared. Now he loves the attention. So why not.
“I’d love to do them all (the eight World Cup events) but I can only do four.” She will show at Stockholm and Amsterdam.
Adelinde said that riding to make Parzival a “little bit lighter and to show more self carriage” was working as he was already better in this competition than in the first World Cup event that was their first appearance after the London Olympics.
The pair picked up five marks of 10, three for piaffe and two in the one-tempi changes.
An obviously happy Edward Gal said that Glock’s Undercover that he has been riding only since January is getting better at every show, and Thursday’s ride also included five 10s–three for piaffe and two in passage-piaffe-passage transitions.
Although it was the first indoor show for the black 11-year-old KWPN gelding (Ferro x Mimosavrouwe x Donnerhall), “I was surprised how well he acted.”
This was only the fifth competition for the pair in addition to the Olympics and their previous Grand Prix score was 77.617 per cent less than two months ago.
