ODENSE, Denmark, Oct. 20–Olympic individual silver medal pair Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival kicked off their campaign for a third straight World Cup title when they won the Grand Prix Saturday with a score of 79.362 per cent in the first of eight Western European League events leading to the Final next April.
Denmark’s hometown favorite Anna Kasprzak also competing for the first time since the Olympic debut of the 22-year-old rider and her family’s Donnperignon were the unanimous choice for runnerup spot with a personal best score of 76.213 per cent at Grand Prix. The Netherland’s Edward Gal and Blue Hors Romanov was third on 74.447 per cent.
This competition for Adelinde and the 15-year-old KWPN gelding (Jazz x Fidoria x Ulft) is the first of only two World Cup events the pair need to compete in to insure their start as defending champion at the Final of the only annual global championship in dressage, and in 2013 will be in Gothenborg, Sweden six months from now.
The international partnership of Anna and the 13-year-old Donnperignon (Donnerhall x Montserrat x Mozart 1179) began 10 months ago. Donnperignon was trained and competed by Christoph Koschel, and were on the German medal-winning teams at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky and the 2011 European Championships.
The CDI3* Grand Prix was won by Denmark’s Hasse Hoffman and Tiesto on 65.936 per cent with compatriot Sofie Jeppesen on Hedebo’s First As second on 65.702 per cent and Sweden’s Mattias Jansson and Brisbane third on 65.234 per cent.
The World Cup Freestyle for which points will be awarded toward qualifying for the Final will be held Sunday.
