SAUGERTIES, New York, Aug. 19–Florida-based Lars Petersen of Denmark rode Mariett to victory in the Grand Prix Special Sunday following a personal best score in the Grand Prix at Hits on the Hudson CDI3*, the fourth competition for the pair since starting Grand Prix less than six months ago.
Lars, based in Wellington, Florida, and the 14-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding (Come Back II x Zendi x Sidey) scored 70.600 per cent in the Special.
He and Mariett, owned by Marcia Pepper, scored 68.404 per cent in the Grand Prix Friday, the unanimous choice of the five judges for first place with Finland’s Maria Colliander awaring them 70.957 per cent. The previous high for the pair was 67.660 per cent in Florida last winter.
The USA’s Melissa Taylor, his business and personal partner, was runnerup on Schumacker Solyst on 63.596 per cent in the Grand Prix and was the sole starter in the Freestyle Saturday night and sored 70.700 per cent.
Canada’s Nancy MacLachlan on Deniro’s Tyme was third in the Grand Prix on 63.340 per cent and second in the Special with 64.489 per cent.
