SYDNEY, July 11– Citing “team harmony,” Australia on Wednesday selected Rozzie Ryan and GV Bullwinkle over Hayley Beresford and Belissimo NRW as reserve for the Olympic dressage team.
Rozzie and GV Bullwinkle will be reserve to the team of Mary Hanna and Sancette, Kristy Oatley and Clive and Lyndal Oatley and Sandro Boy 9.
Kristy and Lyndal are cousins and based in Germany as is Hayley who has been sharply criticial of the selection procedures centered around the two nomination events in Europe.
Despite results placing Hayley in the top three ranked Australians during the selection period, she was not named to the team. She filed appeals to both the Australia federation and the Court of Arbitration for Sport based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Both cases were dismissed.
In confirming Rozzie as the reserve, the Australian federation said: “The ability to positively contribute to the team is essential for an Olympic Games and in the interest of team harmony the Dressage Selectors have chosen to appoint Rozzie. Equestrian Australia has acted in the best interest of not just the Dressage team but all 17 riders who have been selected in the equestrian team.”
