AACHEN, Germany, July 9–Princess Benedikte of Denmark has created a new foundation to promote dressage and take control of the Global Dressage Forum, the organization that has been the central meeting place for the sport for the past 11 years.
The princess will be the foundation’s first president.
The Global Dressage Forum has taken place at Academy Bartels in the Netherlands since its founding, but the organizing rights have been transferred to the new foundation which held its first board meeting in Aachen during the CDIO.
Current board members are Princess Benedikte, Dr. Wilfried Bechtolsheimer from Great Britain and Joep Bartels from the Netherlands. The board will be expanded in the near future.
“The Foundation will control the quality and independence of the program through an international program-committee formed by representatives of the trainers, riders, judges, scientists, and the FEI,” the princess said.
The next Forum will again take place in the Netherlands Oct. 29-30, but it will likely travel to different countries after 2013.
At the Aachen meeting of representatives of the FEI, board members of the trainers and riders clubs, judges and equestrian scientists, all stakeholders declared their commitment to the new initiative.
“We consider the Global Dressage Forum as the central meeting place for all of us, and we continue to combine our general annual meetings of the riders and trainers clubs at the Forum,” David Hunt, president of the dressage trainers club, and Kyra Kyrklund, president of the dressage riders club, said in a statement.
Trond Asmyr, dressage director of the FEI, confirmed support for the new foundation.
