Matthias Alexander Rath has been diagnosed with the virus mononucleosis and will not compete Totilas on the German team in the Nations Cup at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen the first week of July, the German national federation announced.

Dorothee Schneider on Royal Diva, a 10-year-old Hanoverian mare, will replace Matthias and Totilas on the Aachen team of Helen Langehanenberg and Damon Hill NRW, Kristina Sprehe and Desperados and Anabel Balkenhol and Dablino.

On the advice of doctors, Matthias, 27, should not engage in “any sporting activity for at least 12 to 14 days in order avoid serious complications.”

His father, Klaus Martin Rath, is riding Totilas in the meantime.

German dressage coach Jonny Hilberath and team veterinarian Cordula Gather will visit Totilas at Kronberg, the estate of his stepmother, Ann-Kathrin Linsenhoff, on July 6 to make an asessment of the “fitness and phsyical condition” of the stallion.

The German Olympic team will be nominated to the German Olympic Committee on July 8.
