NEUMÜNSTER, Germany, Feb. 19–Helen Langehanenberg on Damon Hill NRW won their first World Cup event by capturing the freestyle at Neumünster on Sunday, beating fellow German Isabell Werth on El Santo NRW and moving to the top of the World Cup Western European League standings with one event to go.

The pair posted a personal best score of 83.500 per cent, improving on the 83.150 per cent they were awarded at the Amsterdam World Cup event one month ago, and led a German sweep of the top five places. Isabell and El Santo were second on 80.975 per cent and Uta Gräf and Le Noir 35 placed third on 77.475 per cent.

The diminutive Helen and the 12-year-old Westfalen stallion (Donnerhall x Romanze x Rubinstein 1) have been competing at the top level of the sport for just over a year. The horse was six-year-old world champion at Verden, Germany, in 2006 with Ingred Klimke

The Grand Prix on Saturday was won by Isabell and the 11-yar-old Rhinelander gelding (Ehrentusch x Rythme x Rythmus) with Helen and Damon Hill second and Denmark’s Lone Jörgensen and FBW De Vito third.

The ninth and last qualifying competion in the Western European League is scheduled for Gothenborg, Sweden, next week.
