WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, Feb. 12–Sweden’s Tinne Vilhelmsson-Silfvén won again Sunday, riding Divertimento to an easy victory in the Olympic Grand Prix Special at the Wellington Spring Classic CDI3*.
The pair scored 74.356 per cent despite a bobble in the one-tempi changes with Canada’s Jacqueline Brooks on D-Niro second with 68.956 per cent and Christopher Hickey of Colora, Maryland, on Douglas Hilltop third on 68.867 per cent.
The Olympic Grand Prix Special is an abbreviated version of the standard Special. It was created specially for this year’s Games where it will be critical as the team competition will be decided by the results of both the Grand Prix and the Special. Teams are limited to three combinations with no discard score in a move to add more excitement to Olympic dressage competition.
Tinne has three horses owned by Antonia Ax:son Johnson to compete at Grand Prix in her second year on the Florida winter circuit. In 2011, Divertimento was preparing for the Big Tour.
So far this season, she has competed Divertimento six times in three different shows posting four victories, one second and a third place. She rode Favourit in the World Dressage Masters Grand Prix and Freestyle for two third places.
Don Auriello, whom she figures to be her mount for the World Cup Final at ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, in April and the Olympics in London in August, has not competed in Florida so far.
In 2011, she rode Favourit and Don Auriello a total of 12 times to notch eight first placings, three seconds and one third.
