DRACHTEN, Netherlands, Jan. 7–Spain’s 19-year-old Morgan Barbançon made her Grand Prix debut on IPS Painted Black to win the Grand Prix Special Saturday after placing second in the Grand Prix behind the veteran Edward Gal on Interfloor Next One at the inaugural ICNN Drachten CDI3*.
Morgan and Painted scored 71.488 per cent in the Grand Prix Special with Belgium’s Claudia Fassaert on Donnerfee second on 70.444 per cent and The Netherlands’ Patrick Van Der Meer on Uzzo third on 69.155 per cent.
In the Grand Prix, Edward and Next One scored 72.744 per cent with Morgan and Painted second on 71.893 per cent and Holland’s Hans Peter Minderhoud on Whitney van ‘T Genthof in third with 70.553 per cent.
Morgan is seeking to make the Spanish team for the London Olympics on the 15-year-old KWPN stallion (Gribaldi x Litchy x Ferro) that was competed by Anky van Grunsven for more than three years until the end of 2010. Anky and Painted rode in two World Cup Finals, the last time in 2009 at Las Vegas when they finshed third.
Anky has been coaching Morgan through the Under-25 Division with success through 2011 and described her results as “fantastic.”
Drachten replaced Zwolle.
