DEVON, Pennsylvania, Nov. 29–Organizers of Dressage at Devon and the Devon Horse Show have launched a campaign to raise $300,000 to improve drainage and install footing in the warmup ring that is the same as the footing added to the two competition rings in the past two years.
The footing at Devon is identical to that installed in all the hunter-jumper arenas and the rings being installed for the newly created Global Dressage Festival at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Florida.
“Dressage at Devon and the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair have had a strong and productive relationship for many years.,” said Leonard King, chairman of the non-profit group that operates the facility. “We look forward to many more years of working together to produce two of the best equestrian events in the country. The success of this campaign is an important step toward the future of our shows,”
Dressage at Devon said that it is contributing the first $25,000 toward the estimated $300,000 required to complete the arena improvements in time for the competitions in the fall of 2012.
Completion of the improvements in footing along with rehabilitated stabling will help restore some of the prestige of the show grounds in the heart of Philadelphia’s Main Line that has attracted large crowds to the dressage competition for almost four decadess. The show was the premier dressage competition in the United States for many years, but has been overshadowed by the Florida winter circuit.
