COCHRANVILLE, Pennsylvania, Nov. 5–Ashlea Day, who is based in the U.S. with competitor/trainer Silva Martin, will be Australia’s representative at the Young Rider World Cup in Frankfurt, Germany, next month.

Ashlea, 21, is partnered with C.P. Perolus, a 14-year-old KWPN gelding (Junior STV x Lerola x Rossini) owned by Ashlea and her mother, Donna-Maree.

The pair competed at three CDIs in the Northeast in fall seeking to qualify for Frankfurt, Dec. 15-18.

She thought she had missed out, but was told by the Australian federation that she can go.

Ashlea is from Newcastle and worked with Silva when the German-born trainer lived in Australia with her eventing husband, Boyd.

She went as a spectator to the World Equestrian Games at Aachen, Germany, in 2006, but has not competed before in Europe.

“I’m so excited,” she said. “I can’t believe it.”

Ashlea will return to the U.S. after Frankfurt to keep working fulltime with Silva.

She plans to compete in Wellington, Florida, during the coming winter circuit.

Silva joked on her blog about Ashlea’s selection for Frankfurt:

“Because it was a last-minute announcement, it actually works in our favor. Now we only have to deal with Ashlea’s emotions and nervous breakdowns for a little while! ”
