ODENSE, Denmark, Oct. 23–Hans Peter Minderhoud and IPS Tango won the first Western European League World Cup event of the 2011/2012 indoor circuit Sunday, posting a personal best score of 79.300 per cent.
The Dutch Olympian and the 11-year-old KWPN stallion (Jazz x O. Bertje x Contango) came out on top of the field of 15 starters from nine nations in the event kicking off the highly competitive Western European League of nine events leading to the Final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, next April.
Germany’s Helen Langehanenberg and Responsible OLD placed second on 77.525 per cent and Sweden’s Tinne Vilhelmsson Silfvén on Don Auriello was third on 75.925 per cent.
Hans Peter was in reflective mood after his victory..
After a long and successful partnership with the mare, Exquis Nadine, who was retired during the European Dressage Championships in Rotterdam this summer, he is now working with a horse that is something of a “work in progress.”
But he was delighted with Sunday’s result. “I’m not suprised that he won,” he said “My horse is in good shape–even yesterday when we finished third in the Grand Prix. He is really coming along.”
Tinne was not disappointed with third place on Don Auriello.
“He is only nine years old and in his first year competing in Grand Prix,” she said. “Perhaps he was a bit tired compared with yesterday, but I am very pleased with third place.”
Tinne debuted the horse during last winter’s Florida circuit and will return for a second year.
Hans Peter earned the maximum 20 qualifying points for Sunday’s winning winning ride, but it Tinne is at the top of the leaderboard from her finish Sunday and points earned in the Central European league.
