DONAEUSCHINGEN, Germany, Sept. 23–Ulla Salzgeber, who took the summer off to focus on training and teaching, returned to the competition arena with Herzruf’s Erbe on Saturday to claim victory in the Grand Prix at the CHI Donaueschingen CDI4*.
Anky van Grunsven also returned to the dressage show ring with Salinero for only the second time since shifting her focus to reining for the 2010 World Equestrian Games and took second plaace.
The score of 76.191 per cent for the German multi Olympic medalist and her 12-year-old Rhinelander gelding by Herzruf was in the same range as the marks she received at this year’s World Cup Final in Leipzig and the CDI5* in Munich where the pair won the Freestyle. The combination received two scores above 78 per cent, one just below that level but a mark of 71.935 per cent from Sweden’s A.Iacobaeus.
Anky and the 17-year-old Hanoverian gelding by Salieri on whom she has won Olympic and world championship gold for The Netherlands and is now 17 years old scored 74.915 per cent while Germany’s Uta Gräf on Le Noi was third on 72.553 per cent.
