MILTON, Ontario, June 17–Diane Creech and Devon L won the Milton Summer Classic Grand Prix Friday, kicking off two weeks of competition that includes the first World Cup qualifier in Canada in two years.
Diane and the 11-year-old Hanoverian gelding that she has competed at Grand Prix for two years on both sides of the Atlantic scored 66.043 per cent with Cheryl Meisner and Paganini second on 65.553 per cent and the 2008 Olympic combination of Jacqueline Brooks and Gran Gesto third on 65.191 per cent. All 12 starters in the class were Canadians.
No World Cup events were staged in Canada in 2010.
Tom Dvorak, the 2007 Canadian Pan Am team silver medalist, won the Prix St. Georges on Viva’s Salieri W on 68.202 per cent, Tina Irwin on Winston was second on 67.763 per cent and Jill Irving, an adult amateur, on Degas 12 was third on 65.746 per cent.
The Pan American Games held once every four years and scheduled for Guadalajara, Mexico, in October is at small tour and is the last opportunity for nations to qualify teams for the London Olympics in 2012.
