RALEIGH, North Carolina, June 3–Susan Dutta and Currency DC, a successful combination on both sides of the Atlantic, won the Grand Prix over two veteran combinations at the Raleigh CDI3* Friday.
Susan of Wellington, Florida and the 11-year-old gelding by Clintino, scored 66.319 per cent with individual scores that ranged from 69.149 per cent awarded by Canadian “O” judge Elizabeth McMullen and 68.404 per cent from the USA’s Charlotte Bredahl to a low of 63.191 per cent from Great Britain’s Jo Graham and 64.894 from Argentina’s Gabriel Armando.
Suzanne Dansby-Bollman of Atlanta, Georgia showed her 19-year-old gelding Cooper that she said is “doing better than ever,” to second on 66.298 with Arlene “Tuny” Page also of Wellington in third place on Wild One, a veteran of four years of international competition in both the U.S. and Europe, for a score of 65.340 per cent.
“It felt like the best test so far,” said Susan who competed Currency on the Sunshine Tour in Spain, as well as at Hagen and Hamburg in Germany before being sidelined with an injury in mid-2010. The pair recovered to compete twice in international classes on the Florida circuit this winter.
“He is improving since coming back from the injury and is more powerful and expressive,” she said after the ride that displayed the best piaffe and passage so far in his Grand Prix career. “It is all going in the right way.”
