LONDON, May 27–Zara Phillips, British three-day event rider and grand daughter of the queen, has joined soccer star David Beckham as Samsung Electronics’ United Kingdom ambassadors for the London 2012 Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee has initially ruled there is no conflict of interest in the arrangement as the princess is not an IOC member and as a team Great Britain athlete she is entitled to sign an agreement with an official Olympic sponsor.
“Zara was chosen by Samsung because she is a patriotic British athlete; and her dedication to training for possible selection at London 2012, to compete in Team GB (including Northern Ireland) as a three day eventer with her chosen horse, is evident,” Samsung said in a statement.
Zara’s father, Mark, is coach of the U.S. eventing team.
