HAGEN, Germany, May 7–After spearheading a successful British assault on the Horses & Dreams meets Germany Grand Prix for the Special, Laura Bechtolsheimer on Saturday repeated her success in the Grand Prix for the Freestyle aboard her second horse, Andretti H.

The 26-year-old who established herself as the face of British dressage with team silver and individual bronze medals at the 2009 European Championships in her homeland then adding three silver medals at last year’s World Equestrian Games, scored 74.383 per cent a personal best aboard the 16-year-old gelding at Grand Prix.

Germany’s Nadine Capellmann aboard her 2008 Olympic mount Elvis VA that has been dogged by injuries since then, was second on 72.123 per cent with Anabel Balkenhol on Rubins Royal third on 71.681 per cent. Anabel on Dablino was second in Friday’s Grand Prix.

Sweden’s Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven on her 2008 Olympic horse, Favourit, that she competed successfully in Florida during winter was fourth with 71.000 per cent.

The USA’s Jan Ebeling rode his World Cup mount Rafalca to fifth place with a personal best score of 70.872 per cent, the first time the pair have cracked 70 per cent in the Grand Prix.

“It felt really good,” said Jan of Moorpark, California, approaching the best ride he has ever had on the horse at the World Cup Final in Leipzig a week ago. Rafalca is owned by Ann Romney, Beth Meyer and his wife, Amy.

“I rode conservatively and Wolfram (Wittig, his coach) said it needed more oomph.

“Riding in this great company helps to move it up a notch, to get more out of you. And with Wolfram I’m happy to have someone to kick my butt.

“Just being around the quality of horses and riders here makes this like a dressage dreamland.”

Wolfram Wittig said he is happy to see the combination improving both in scores and consistency.
