SAUMUR, France, May 1–Carl Hester on Uthopia posted a personal best with Charlotte du Jardin on Valegra runnerup in the CDIO Grand Prix at Concours de Dressage Internationaux of Saumur, but reversed the order of finish in the Grand Prix Special with Charlotte coming out the winner.
Carl and Uthopia, a 10-year-old KWPN stallion, scored 74.596 per cent while Charlotte and the nine-year-old gelding whom Carl helped bring to Grand Prix that she began showing earlier this year were awarded 73.340 per cent in the Grand Prix. The previous best score for Carl and Uthopia was 73.833 per cent on Spain’s Sunshine Tour more than a year ago.
In the Grand Prix Special, Charlotte and Valegra topped the field with 73.854 per cent while Carl and Uthopia scored 73.771 per cent.
Denmark’s Anne van Olst on the 11-year-old gelding Exquis Taikoen was third in both classes, scoring 66.979 per cent in the Grand Prix and 70.500 per cent in the Special.
The CDI3* Grand Prix was won by Spain’s Juan Manuel Muñoz Dias and Fuego de Cardenas (birth name was Fuego XII) with a score of 73.340 per cent, competing for the first time since the 13-year-old high stepping gray stallion that was the popular stars of the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.
Great Britain’s Fiona Bigwood on Wie-Atlantico de Ymas was second on 69.596 per cent and Spain’s Claudio Castilla Ruiz on Jade de MV were third on 68.191 per cent.
The CDI3* Freestyle was won by Juan Manuel Muñoz Dias and Fuego de Cardenas with a score of 79.450 per cent, surpassed only by their score at last year’s WEG. Fiona Bigwood on Wie-Atlantico de Ymas second on 74.100 per cent and Anne van Olst on Exquis Clearwater third on 73.300 per cent.
