LOXAHATCHEE, Florida, Mar. 25–James Koford rode Rhett to victory in the IHS Champions Cup CDI3* Grand Prix qualifier for the Special Friday, just two days after capturing a costume class in which the pair were robed in black as Batman.
Jim of Raleigh, North Carolina, scored 67.489 per cent with Florida-based Canadian Shannon Dueck on Ayscha second on 66.368 per cent and Australian 2006 World Equestrian Games rider Kelly Layne, now living in Wellington, Florida, on Raja with 66.255 per cent for third place.
The CDI was the last of six run during the three months of the winter circuit that coincides with the Winter Equestrian Festival and its 12 weeks of hunter/jumper competitions.
On Wednesday, Jim rode in the finale of the weekly Dressage Under the Stars costume competition with a combination of celebrity and regular judges, on a grass arena beside the popular Players Club in the heart of Wellington.
He claimed the winner-take-all purse of $2,500 (€1,775) for his Batman freestyle.
No prize money was listed for the CDI3* Grand Prix, but his score may count toward qualifying for the U.S. Grand Prix Championships later in the year.
