GÖTEBORG, Sweden, Feb. 26–Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival claimed their fourth World Cup qualifying victory Saturday night in a superb Grand Prix Freestyle performance at the Göteborg Horse Show with only a single event left in the series before the Final in Leipzig, Germany at the end of April.

Despite food poisoning two nights ago that required medical treatment, Adelinde rode the 14-year-old KWPN gelding by Jazz to a score of 82.875 per cent.

The  top four in the freestyle finished in the same order as the Grand Prix on Friday–hometown favorite Patrik Kittel and Watermill Scandic H.B.C. second on 81.025 per cent, Isabell Werth of Germany on Warum Nicht FRH third on 79.775 per cent and Jenny Schreven of The Netherlands and Krawall in fourth place with 72.900 per cent.

The USA’s Catherine Haddad on Winyamaro, the only non-European at Göteborg, scored 70.650 per cent to place eighth.

Adelinde, ranked second in the world on Parzival–Edward Gal and Moorlands Totilas are still officially No. 1 although the horse was sold to Germany four months ago–collected sufficient points from Saturday night’s win to move to the top of the Western European League on 80 points with the 10th and final event to come in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, Mar. 24-27.

Adelinde said that her biggest battle in the freestyle was with her own health because of the food poisoning.

Despite that, she was disappointed with the results–“at the Europeans I scored 86.000 yet this was a better test and I only got 82.000–maybe the judge can explain?”

Wim Ernes of The Netherlands, president of the ground jury, replied that she had done “a very good test” but that “sometimes the horse was a little short in the neck–but it was a good total picture.”

Isabell was in third place with 74 points after six qualifiers on three horses, Warum Nicht three times, Satchmo 78 twice and El Santo NRW for two first places, three second placings and one third. She said she expects to ride Satchmo, her 2008 Olympic gold medal mount, at Leipzig.

Holland’s 25-year-old Jenny Schreven, riding Krawall in  their only World Cup qualifier this season captured the hearts of the crowd with fourth place finishes in both the Grand Prix and the Kür.
