GÖTEBORG, Sweden, Feb. 25–Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival set the stage for another World Cup qualifying victory when the pair easily won the Grand Prix at the Göteborg Horse Show Friday, the second last of the 10 competitions in the Western European League of the only annual global dressage series.
Adelinde and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding by Jazz scored 76.511 per cent while hometown star Patrik Kittel on his Olympic and European Championship mount Watermill Scandic H.B.C. were second on 74.638 per cent and league leading Isabell Werth of Germany on Warum Nicht FRH were third on 72.319 per cent.
The USA’s Catherine Haddad on Winyamaro, the only non-European at Göteborg, scored 68.383 per cent to place fifth. She is currently in seventh place in the WEL standings.
The Freestyle is scheduled for Saturday when points will be awarded for standings that determine which horse and rider combinations will go to the World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany, April 27-May 1.
Isabell, the 2007 World Cup champion, is in second place in the standings but league-leading Ulla Salzgeber is not competing here. Adelinde is currently third in the rankings.
