A week after the decision that dressage riders competing in sanctioned U.S. national level competitions must wear a safety helmet on show grounds, there was widespread adoption even at FEI level at national shows in Florida and California although the rule does not go into effect until Mar. 1.
Although senior riders in FEI (International Equestrian Federation) classes are exempt from the rule–unless they also are competing at national level, too–five of eight competitors in the Grand Prix class at the inaugural International Horse Sport show in Loxahatchee, Florida, wore safety helmets.

Helmets were also in abundance at the Los Angeles Winter Dressage Competition.
