OISTERWIJK, Netherlands, Jan. 1–The Exquis World Dressage Masters enters its third year with only three events confirmed for 2011, down from the five held in 2010.
Munich, Germany June 2-5, Falsterbo, Sweden July 7-10 and Hickstead, England July 28-31 are the three CDI5* shows confirmed for 2011. Palm Beach in the USA was also listed for the first week of February but that event has been canceled.
Cannes, France, was missing from the list of events for 2011 detailed on the WDM Internet site.
The glamorous resort was the test competition in 2008 ahead of launching the series a year later with Palm Beach, Munich, Cannes and Hickstead each offering €100,000 (US$130,000) in prize money. Falsterbo was added in 2010.
The series also includes a Nürnberger Versicherungsgruppe Rider Award of €25,000, the first of which was won by Edward Gal at the Munich competition in 2010. Germany’s Anja Plönzke is leading the 2010/2011 rankings with 1,660.5 points, with Michael Rapcewicz of Poland second on 1,378.5 points and Holland’s Adelinde Cornelissen in third place with 900 points. The Rider Award Final will be decided at Munich.
The WDM management had said in a news release blasting the organizers of the Palm Beach event for pulling out of the series that it would release the 2011 schedule at the Jumping Mechelen show in Belgium on Dec. 28 along with a new media partnership and a new partner. No information was provided on a media partnership or a new partner.
The prime sponsors of the series are the Dutch enterprises Exquis and Moorlands, Axel Johnson Group of Sweden and Nürnberger Versicherungsgruppe of Germany.
