
FRANKFURT, Germany, Dec. 18–Ulla Salzgeber on Herzruf’s Erbe won the Grand Prix at the World Cup qualifier Saturday, squeaking by Isabell Werth who is competing her third horse, El Santo NRW, in the the winter indoor series.
Ulla and the 11-year-old Herzruf’s Erbe scored 75.702 per cent while Isabell and El Santo were on 75.532 per cent. Denmark’s Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein was third with 72.511 per cent and the sole non-German in the top six placings.
Frankfurt marks the halfway point in the 10-event West European League series leading to the World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany at the end of April.
Isabell has won two of this year’s events on two different horses, her 2007 World Cup title winner Warum Nicht FRH and her Olympic gold medal mount Satchmo.
The freestyle that earns points for the standings will be held Sunday.
