LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Nov. 23–Henk Rottinghuis, whose bid for the presidency of the International Equestrian Federation was swamped by the reelection of Princess Haya for a second term of four years, announced Tuesday he has resigned from the FEI’s Audit & Compliance Committee.

The Dutch businessman had suspended his participation on the committee while running for the presidency that was decided by the FEI General Assembly in early November.

Explaining his decision, Rottinghuis said: “I don’t think it is appropriate for me to remain as a member of this Committee following  my recent campaign for the Presidency.  I hope the Committee, which by nature has to be critical, succeeds in finding an independent candidate who can replace me in fulfilling this important function overseeing  the governance of the FEI.”
