MELBOURNE, Australia, Nov. 20–Three-time Australian Olympian Mary Hanna on Umbro won the Equitana Australia Grand Prix Freestyle World Cup qualifier Saturday, the first international competition for the nine-year-old KWPN gelding. Mary also took second place with Sancette.

The panel of five judges were split in their placings, two awarding the top spot to Umbro and two to Sancette, the 9-year-old Sandro Hit gelding she bought from the U.S. earlier this year and competed once at a CDI, the Australian Dressage Championships in Sydney last month.

Mary and Umbro scored 66.650 per cent and the score for Sancette was 66.100 per cent.

Maree Tompkinson on Rodrigo III was third on 65.350 per cent while Chantal Wigan and Ferero, who had won the Grand Prix, finished fourth on 64.950 per cent.

Shiraz Black, a seven-year-old Sandro Hit black stallion owned by Mary Hanna, was also featured in the halftime entertainment with a demonstration ride by World Equestrian Games individual medalist Steffen Peters of San Diego, California.
