TORONTO, Nov. 10–Canada’s top international rider, Ashley Holzer, rode her Olympic and World Equestrian Games mount, Pop Art, to victory to defend her title in the 88th Royal Horse Show CDI3* Grand Prix Wednesday.

In the field of five combinations made up solely of Canadians, Ashley and Pop Art scored 69.787 per cent with 2008 Olympic team mate Jacqueline M. Brooks on Gran Gesto second at 65.489 per cent and Simone Williams and Wunder Ein in third at 62.213 per cent. Victoria Winter on Proton was 4th at 60.383 per cent and Liz Steacie on Spotless on 58.000 per cent.

Axel Steiner of the USA, president of the Ground Jury, Axel Steiner, said of Ashley’s ride: “Ashley had a very good start to her test – very solid with very high scores. Unfortunately, when she came to the canter work, her old nemesis, particularly the flying changes, came to bite her and the overall result, although she still won the class, was not as stellar as she could have been with a more mistake-free ride.”

The $20,000 (€14,500) Grand Prix Freestyle presented by Dominion Regalia will be held Thursday night.
