SYDNEY, Oct. 29–Heath Ryan rode his Regardez Moi to victory in the Australian Dressage Championships World Cup qualifying Grand Prix Friday, posting their best score in a Grand Prix since competing at Del Mar, California in April, 2009, before Heath suffered a stroke.
Heath and the 14-year-old stallion that he rode in the 2009 World Cup in Las Vegas scored 66.383 per cent while Gitte Donvig on Port Said 10, owned and competed internationally through 2008 by her mother, Mary Hanna, was second on 65.021 per cent and Kate Taylor-Wheat on Oscar B was third on 64.979 per cent.
Mary Hanna competed for the first time at a CDI on the nine-year-old gelding Sancette that she bought earlier this year from the United States after being trained by Steffen Peters, to finish fourth on 64.511 per cent.
The Grand Prix Freestyle is scheduled for Saturday night in the second of four qualifiers in the Asia/Pacific League for the World Cup Final that will be held in Leipzig, Germany at the end of April.
In another highlight of the championships at the Sydney International Equestrian Center, 19-year-old Megan Bryant on her Donnabella, who is scheduled to compete for Australia at the Young Rider World Cup in Frankfurt, Germany, in December finished fourth in two Advanced classes.
