SAN DIEGO, California, Aug. 14–Steffen Peters rode Ravel to their highest ever score of 82.50 per cent at a national show in San Diego Saturday, while across the continent top American dressage riders were battling to be his World Equestrian Games team mates.
“Ravel is in top form,” he told dressage-news.com. “He did an awesome test today. It’s a new record for us.”
The ride was judged by a three-judge panel made up of Doreen Horsey, Eileen Fagan, and Curry Schaefer.
Steffen and the Akiko Yamazaki-owned 12-year-old Dutch gelding were excused from the U.S. WEG selection trials on the basis of their competition record over the past two years, including 2009 World Cup champion, an historic American sweep of the CDIO classes at Aachen, Germany, as well as top results in the Exquis World Dressage Masters at Palm Beach.
