AACHEN, Germany, July 16–Isabell Werth rode Warum Nicht FRH continued at the top of their game with a victory in the CDI Grand Prix Special under lights Friday night, following on from their win in the Grand Prix two days earlier and a sweep of the Exquis World Dressage Masters in Cannes last month.
Isabell and the 14-year-old gelding, her 2007 World Cup champion mount, scored 73.452 per cent with fellow German’s Monica Theodorescu on Whisper second on 68.482 per cent and Sabine Becker on Lamarc WRT third on 68.065 per cent.
Rain that had been threatened since late afternoon held off until the final centerline piaffe and passage of Isabell and Warum Nicht, but it seemed to affect the first half of the class of nine starting combinations when most incurred multiple errors and German Gina Capellmann-Lütkemeier and Baldessarini were eliminated.
It did not detract from the performance of Isabell and Warum Nicht, however, six months after returning to competition from a long layoff during which she gave birth to her first child, a son.
