SCHINDLHOF, Austria, June 27–Ulla Salzgeber and Herzruf’s Erbe performed their Grand Prix Freestyle to Music that scored them their highest ever at close to 80 per cent at the Manfred Swarovski Gedächtnis Turnier CDI4* Sunday, and put them back in the hunt for a place on Germany’s team for the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.
The Olympic rider and 11-year-old Rhinelander gelding gave an outstanding performance as they sought to return to top form after Herzi, as Ulla calls the horse, pulled up lame during the CHIO in Aachen, Germany, a year ago. In 2008, the pair had notched 10 wins at Grand Prix.
In their third show since returning to international competition earlier this year, the pair won the Grand Prix Saturday with a score of 70.596 per cent.
On Sunday, Ulla and Herzruf’s Erbe scored 79.550 per cent, with the young Austrian star Victoria Max-Theurer on Eicehndorff second on 74.250 per cent and Germany’s Anja Plönzke on Le Mont d’Or third on 73.950 per cent. Other top finishers were Anabel Balkenhol of Germany on Rubins Royal at 72.850 per cent for fourth, Valentina Truppa of Italy on Chablis at 72.450 per cent for fifth and the USA’s Catherine Haddad on the developing Winyamaro on 71.550 per cent for sixth place.
