LIPICA, Slovenia, May 30–Great Britain’s Richard Davison posted the best performance so far on the 11-year-old gelding Artemis, winning the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle qualifier Sunday.
The pair scored 76.050 per cent to be placed first by all five judges, with Austria’s Peter Gmoser on Cointreau second with 71.550 per cent and Hungary’s Robert Acs on Weinzauber placing third with 71.350 per cent.
The USA’s Catherine Haddad turned in one of her best performances to date on her own 10-year-old gelding Winyamaro for 70.750 per cent to place fourth, Australia’s Hayley Beresford on Relampago Do Retiro was fifth with 70,250 per cent and Ulrike Prunthaller of Austria and Bartlgut’s Harvard were sixth with 69.00 per cent.
In the Grand Prix on Friday, Richard and Artemis were scored at 70.681 per cent, with Poland’s Michal Rapcewicz on Randon second on 70.085 per cent and Peter Gmoser on Cointreau third on 67.617 per cent.
The Grand Prix score for Richard and Artemis was the first time at an international competition above 70 per cent and the freestyle marks were also the highest since the partnership began competing at the top level at the end of 2008.
